Statement by ALERT - 6th December 2005
Victory in Scotland
Mr Jeremy Purvis MSP, has abandoned his attempt to introduce
an assisted suicide Bill into the Scottish Parliament, due to
lack of support. The signatures of 18 members would have been
required and he only secured five.
This follows an information campaign
by a number of organisations in Scotland which disliked the prospect
of public endorsement of suicide as a valid option for people
in bad health.
ALERT would like to offer all who worked
hard for this splendid result our heartfelt thanks.
Lord Joffe plans to introduce his similar
Bill again in the House of Lords early next year.
